Transformation – Part 1

There are several events I can pinpoint to now looking back in hindsight. Hindsight is 20/20 after all. But the main motivator, of course, was having another kid that magically turned into two kids. We got by before with just one and we were moderately successful but having twins “raised the stakes” as my wife and I like to say.

The 1st year of raising a child isn’t something that can really be taught. It sounds clichĂ© but it’s true; you really have to experience it. Being a parent is an extremely tough job that you will suck at it for a very long time. To this day I still think I do a lot of things wrong though it really helps to talk to other people to figure it out. It lets you know that it’s not all stabs in the dark, that some of these things actually make good sense.

So back to January of 2016 – the first year of twins was a nightmare to end all nightmares. I hate to look at it like that but the lack of sleep, the weight gain, the lack of money, the hole in my living room wall – those are all very objective things that tell me how hard that was. When you’re doing it you rarely think about it. You just move automatically; change a diaper, mix the formula, wrap the baby, etc. You just survive to ensure your children survive. Luckily the feel good aspects of children are there in enough amounts to keep you sane…
